| Greg Vinci
was born with dirt between his toes. During his childhood, his mother
found that the best way to keep him occupied was to place him outdoors on
a pile of sand with a spoon and a bucket. She knew that he would be
content for hours just shoveling dirt and observing the world around
him. Greg's parents had no way to know at the time how prophetic the
naming of their son Gregory would become. The name Gregory,
meaning the watchful one, in Greek, definitely applies to Greg as
he has spent his life observing, photographing, and writing about the
outdoor world.
Upon graduating from college Greg spent the next five years employed in a diverse number of positions within the photo industry. He gained experience in everything from commercial photography to commercial photo finishing. During that time, he was honored by being invited to exhibit a selection of his photos, Highway 395 and Other Images in a one man show held at the Memorial Union Gallery at the University of California, Davis campus. |
Images from that show were subsequently exhibited in a show of international art at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, in Canada which is one of that contry's major art galleries. He was very proud to have his work hanging on the same wall as such icons as Picasso and Monet. Today he is the owner of Sierra Pacific Products, one of the major innovators and distributors of fly tackle and accessories. Many of the products that he designed and developed are sold in fly shops around the world. His career has given him the opportunity to live and breathe fly fishing, hunting and the outdoors and over the years he's collected a huge portfolio of images from his travels, some of which are available for view on this site. Greg also writes extensively about outdoor subjects and his articles can be found in many fly fishing and outdoor magazines.
